Blue enameled fine silver leaf earrings, with blue Akoya pearls, sapphire, vesuvianite leaves
A deep indigo blue enamel graces these fine silver mint leaf earrings. I enameled them with transparent indigo and a light steel blue, for a lovely ombre effect. The leaves are topped with clusters of purple and blue sapphires, silver blue Akoya saltwater pearls, and carved vesuvianite leaves. My signature spirals abound. I finished them with sterling silver lever back ear wires. They measure 56 mm x 14 mm, or 2 1/4 inches long.
These leaves are created by painting silver paste on the back side of leaves, then firing in a kiln. The leaf burns away leaving the fab leaves in pure silver. Then a first coat of transparent enamel is applied, then fired again. This happens several times to achieve the desired affect. A lovely new addition to my signature leaf earrings.
A note on precious metal clay: ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece. The silver is reclaimed from such sources as 35mm film and medical and industrial leftovers. No strip mining necessary.
