Ethiopian opal pendant with orange and red sapphires
Ethiopian opal pendant with orange and red sapphires
This eco-friendly fine silver flame pendant is set with an incredibly sparkly Ethiopian opal. The shield shaped opal has flashes of orange red and green. I set 3 burnt orange sapphires in the pendant. Dripping from the bottom is an equally sparkly Ethiopian opal bead and a cluster of red and orange sapphire roundels on ball end headpins. I strung the pendant on an oxidized sterling silver cable chain that is 18 inches long. There is a single sapphire bead at the lobster clasp.
This pendant is 53 mm x 30 mm, or just over 2 inches long
A note on precious metal clay: ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece. The silver is reclaimed from such sources as 35mm film and medical and industrial leftovers. No strip mining necessary.
