Polynesian princess earrings, Tahitian pearls, fine silver and 22k gold accents
Fabulous Tahitian black pearls with a dark blue sheen are the focus of these mixed metal earrings. The saltwater drop pearls hang from ornate floral fine silver links with 22k gold accents. I make these links from pressing fine silver into an antique Bronze mold from India. I gave the links a patina to bring out the gold contrast. The gold is permanently fused to the fine silver. I finished them with blackened sterling silver ear wires with 22k gold ball ends. These earrings come with rubber stoppers.
These earrings measure 45 mm x 9.5 mm, or 1 3/4 inches long. The drop pearls are 13 mm x 9.5 mm.
A note on precious metal clay:
ArtClay silver is a recycled product that consists of fine silver particles suspended in an organic binder. The clay can be worked like other forms of clay, sculpted to almost any shape you desire. The product is then fired at an extremely high temperature, either by kiln or torch. The binder burns away resulting in a pure silver (.999) piece. The silver is reclaimed from such sources as 35mm film and medical and industrial leftovers. No strip mining necessary.
